The Brent Festival of Lights, held in Wembley annually attracts 35,000 revelers and is one of the largest Diwali parades outside India.
Events like this enable Brent’s Diverse community to learn about and celebrate each others’ cultures. To support the case for expansion of the event, Brent Diwali 2009 aimed to increase turnout by 15,000.
The event aims to attract people of all ages, cultures and faiths from Brent and outside it. To broaden its appeal, Diwali is marketed as an opportunity to learn about Hindu culture and celebrate it. Emphasis is placed on the visual aspect of the event which includes fireworks, street lights, laser displays and a colourful parade.
